ADAMTS13 testing

If you suspect MAHA/TTP, please contact the CUH Haematology Consultant via switchboard for urgent advice. Tel: 01223 805000/01223 245151.

For urgent samples, Tel: 01223 274722 (Specialist Haemostasis Lab at CUH) during core hours (09:00-17:00) or out of hours – please contact the on-call Haematology Consultant via switchboard who will liaise with the Haemostasis Laboratory on-call Scientist. Samples can be sent for processing 24 hours a day.

Please note, samples for ADAMTS13 testing will not be processed as urgent without communication with the CUH Haematology Consultant.

Sample Requirements:

Centrifuge primary citrate samples at 1500g for 15 minutes and then remove the plasma and decant to a sample aliquot tube. Citrated plasma aliquots should be sent frozen and packed with ice in an insulated transport container. Alternatively fresh citrate samples can be sent providing they are received within 24 hours of collection.

Sample Labelling:

A minimum of surname, forename and DOB must be present on each aliquot. (Note: local hospital number cannot be accepted as a third point of ID). We will endeavour to ring urgent results on the contact number you have provided. From time of receipt to sample in the lab, urgent results will usually be available within 6 hours. It remains the responsibility of the requestor to coordinate clinical management based on these results.
