Referral Information
Patients can be referred to the Haemostasis team in UHBW by the following pathways:
- Existing patients known to UHBW are able to self-refer directly to the Haematology unit (in hours 0117 342 1872 out of hours 0117 342 2011)
- Haematologists suspecting TTP from a blood film should arrange urgent local review of the patient. Suspicion of the diagnosis should prompt urgent discussion with the on call Adult Haemostasis consultant at UHBW (24/7 cover through UHBW Switchboard 0117 923 0000).
- If unable to make contact try these alternatives in the following order:
- Haematology SpR: in hours Haemostasis SpR bleep 2677; out of hours Adult Haematology SpR via UHBW switchboard.
- Via BHOC SDEC: 0117 3422011, please explain that you need to urgently contact the Haematology registrar or Haemostasis consultant on call
Where there is a wide differential diagnosis, the Haemostasis consultant may decide to arrange urgent transport of sample for ADAMTS13, rather than patient transfer. See ADAMTS13 testing for further details.
ADAMTS13 testing
Please discuss any urgent/new cases (even if you do not think it is TTP) with the on call Haemostasis consultant at UHBW (switchboard 0117 923 000) before sending an urgent sample. We are able to offer testing 7 days per week.
For urgent samples once agreed by the UHBW clinician above please Tel: 0117 342 2708 (available 24/7) when sample is on route.
Sample Requirements for ADAMTS 13 activity: Standard Coagulation Tubes.
